If a debt becomes payable and the creditor does not demand payment from the
debtor, the surety may, if he is not a solidary debtor, notify the creditor to take
action against the debtor. If the creditor fails to do so within 180 days from the
date of notification, the surety shall be discharged from the suretyship even if
the creditor grants the debtor a grace period, unless the surety consents
thereto.
