1. The carrier shall be liable for any damage that causes death or bodily injury to a passenger if the accident occurs during the execution of the contract of carriage. 2. The accident shall be deemed to have occurred during the execution of the contract of carriage if it occurs during the voyage, or when the passenger embarks at the port of departure or disembarks at the port of arrival or a port of call, or during the period the carrier is responsible for the passenger before he embarks or disembarks. 3. If it is established that the accident is due to a fault or negligence attributable to the carrier or his servants, the carrier shall be liable for full compensation, but he shall be exempted from liability if he proves that the death or injury of the passenger is due to a cause not attributable to him.
