1. Custody is the responsibility of both parents as long as they remain married. In case of
separation, custody shall be awarded to the mother, then to the person entitled thereto in
the following order: the father, the maternal grandmother, the paternal grandmother, then
the court shall decide what it deems to be in the interest of the person subject of custody,
without prejudice to Article 126 of this Law.
2. The court may decide contrary to the order stipulated in paragraph (1) of this Article,
based on the interest of the person subject of custody.
