48. Type of Navigation Signals Marine navigation signals are lights, shapes, and sounds, as precisely described in IALA Maritime Buoyage System and the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREG) of 1972, as amended. Additionally, these shapes and lights shall be entirely visible, and the sound signals shall be distinctly audible. 49. Lights, Shapes, and Sound Signals Lamps, lights, floodlights, shapes, or sound signals shall not be used in a manner that obstructs or endangers other ships. 50. Importance of Navigation Signals 1. The captain of the ship shall comply with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea of 1972, as amended, regarding lights and shapes in all weather conditions. 2. The captain of the ship shall apply the rules regarding lights from sunset to sunrise, in accordance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea of 1972, as amended. Additionally, during restricted visibility, the captain of the ship shall use the lights and sound signals and comply with the regulations regarding shapes during daylight hours, as stipulated in the convention. 3. The following terms shall have the meanings ascribed thereto hereunder: 3.1 Masthead Light: A white light placed over the fore and aft on the centerline of the ship, showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 225 degrees, visible at: a range of no less than 6 miles for ships with a length of 50 meters or more; a range of 5 miles for ships with a length of 12 meters and less than 50 meters; and a range of 2 miles for ships with a length less than 12 meters. 3.2 Sidelights: A green light on the starboard side and a red light on the port side, each showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 112.5 degrees, visible at: a range of no less than 3 miles for ships with a length of 50 meters or more; a range of 2 miles for ships with a length of 12 meters and less than 50; and a range of 1 mile for ships with a length less than 12 meters. 3.3 Stern Light: A white light placed at the stern showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 135 degrees, visible at: a range of no less than 3 miles for ships with a length of 50 meters or more; a range of 2 miles for ships with a length of 12 meters and less than 50; and a range of 2 miles for ships with a length less than 12 meters. Operating Regulation 3.4 Towing light: A yellow light with the same characteristics as the Stern light, visible at: a range of no less than 3 miles for ships with a length of 50 meters or more; a range of 2 miles for ships with a length of 12 meters and less than 50; and a range of 2 miles for ships with a length less than 12 meters. 3.5 All-round light: A light showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 360 degrees, visible at: a range of no less than 3 miles for ships with a length of 50 meters or more; a range of 2 miles for ships with a length of 12 meters and less than 50; and a range of 2 miles for ships with a length less than 12 meters. 4. The captain of the ship shall comply with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) of 1974, as amended, regarding lights, shapes, and navigation signals, whether during the daytime or the night time. 51. Navigation Warnings Changes in water depths, navigation waterways, navigation aids, or maritime hazards occurring in coastal waters and areas existing within the port boundaries shall be continuously disseminated, while ensuring accuracy and integrity of corrections and warnings. The captain of the ship involved in an accident with one of the navigation marks or aids shall notify the port administration immediately. 3. If the captain of the ship observes any damage or malfunction to any of these marks or aids, he shall notify the port administration immediately. 4. Navigation notices and warnings are received from ships and ports in accordance with the procedures for issuing navigation notices and warnings issued by the Authority.
